Notes from the score: The graphic notation of the electronics in the score is for the benefit of the conductor to anticipate the general sound of the electronics and what they add to the sound. The electronics serve to create a sound environment in which the acoustic instruments live. Each sound event is numbered in the score. The electronics will be performed on a sampler, either a keyboard, an MPC style ampler, or a computer with a midi controller. All of the sounds, with the exception of mm. 151 - 177, are triggered and allowed to play through completion. During mm. 151 - 177, five sounds are played rhythmically by the performer using standard notation. How the samples are organized on the sampler is up to the performer's or conductor's discretion. A CD is included with the score. The sounds are organized and named as thus: 1. never any definite pitches The percussion required three performers. One performer remains on marimba for the entire performance. The other two percussionists share the responsibilities of the other instruments as outlined in the parts. |
